The new year will bring us a new composition from John Adams. The St. Lawrence Quartet has commissioned a piece from Adams and we will hear it at our concert on January 29th.
Born in New England, his initial music training came from his family. Learning clarinet from his dad, he performed in marching bands and local orchestras. He started composing at the age of 10 and had some of his works performed when he was a teenager. Adams attended Harvard and then moved to California in 1971. He taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and was composer-in-residence of the San Francisco Symphony. He continues to live in the San Francisco Bay area.
We look forward to hearing Adams latest piece with the SLSQ at the end of January!
